I am so eager to share this session with everyone! In April my husband Caleb and I had the amazing opportunity to go on a missions trip to Gaborone, Botswana (in Africa). We had such an amazing trip and time of growth while there. We made so many special connections and new friends. I will be sharing all of the photos from our trip later on, on my personal blog as well as videos I put together from each day.
But until then, I wanted to share this sweet family session I got to capture while I was there! Our host family Pastor Tshepo, Thato and little fikki immediately felt like family. They opened their home and hearts to us and we truly will never be the same. On one of our last evenings there, I asked if I could photograph them near their house. Thato had mentioned to me previously that she longed for some family portraits to decorate their home with. I immediately felt God thumping my heart with the opportunity. It’s been a life long dream to 1. go on a missions trip and 2. photograph people in a different country and 3. do a professional session in a neat country. My heart couldn’t even contain all of the warm, sunny goodness that happened on this beautiful evening. I am amazed by all of the opportunities the lord brings our way when we take the back seat, and let Him do His thing within us. It’s incredible!
This family was such a breeze to photograph! They were all smiles and giggles. Their natural interaction with one another was priceless. Also, Thato MADE her dress. Handmade. Does it get any better then that?
Seeing all of these photos again make me so anxious to get back to Africa someday and to visit all of our family and friends we made while we were there! Until then, I will cherish these photographs always.
Sean and I play together on the worship team at my church and the night he came in and told us all that he was engaged, I basically peed myself with excitement. But, I’m a girl and we’re allowed to have those moments. The night of Sean and Camille’s engagements, we headed over to Sean’s parent’s huge backyard which was AWESOME! Towards the middle of our shoot, Sean headed inside to grab a blanket and when he came back out, his dogs made their great escape! The two kept finding a way to sneak into our photos so, in many of the images, I’m actually petting the dogs with one hand and taking the photo with other (I know, impressive.) All in all, it was a perfect night with beauuuutiful weather, cackles and one super sweet couple. Check out these two models!
Nate and Julia are such a fun couple! From their sweet instruments to their hearts after God, they’re on point. Speaking of on point.. THIS LIGHTING. Man, it was a gorgeous night for a photo-shoot. We met up at my all time favorite spot and enjoyed the sunny October evening. Here are a few of my favorite shots from our time together.. Enjoy!
This is Mikayla and a sweeter girl, I don’t think there is. She’s a current senior at Hempfield high school, a cross country runner and probably the biggest Ben Rector fan there ever was. The night there photos were taken, Mikayla took me to an entrance of Lancaster County Park that I never knew about. It was pretty stinking cool. We also climbed in and over a ton of branches, deep into the woods only to see that we were blind and had missed the trail, but we didn’t mind because the sun was awesome and pouring through the trees. Check out or adventure!
I’ve known Justin and Alyssa for quite some time now. Some of you MIGHT recognize them as the firrrst ever photo-shoot I posted to my first, original website! They were not only great models + a great couple then but still to this day. I am so excited to be shooting their wedding in May! It’s gonna be an all around amazing time. I actually went to high school with both Justin and Allyssa for a few years which makes photographing them even more fun! I’ve literally known them for so many years now – Alyssa and I used to call one another our “twin”. I remember so many cheerleading practices together and pizza runs in Lititz, or watching her go all out on her karaoke machine that I was completely jealous of at the time. HA!! I’ve known Justins family for a few years now as well since we went to school with a few of his cousins! His dad is an absolute riot so I am definitely expecting a brilliant speech at the wedding. This couple is one of a kind. I love them together and will most definitely be shedding some happy-tears May 16th. I couldn’t be more extatic to be their photographer and capturing these moments for them. We had quite some interesting run-ins during this shoot, but I think it was totally worth it to say the least. I mean.. LOOK AT THAT SUN + THOSE FACES.
Chow for now,
I’d never met Heather before but I’d seen her face so many times through mutual friends and social media. I was super excited when she contacted me about doing her senior portraits because I knew she was a super sweetheart with a big smile and kind heart. I couldn’t get over her adorable big brown eyes and perfect, thick hair! That probably sounds weird but, girls you know what I’m talking about.
We did two different shoots within one day- first half in downtown Lancaster City and the second half in a local, random field by my house. The sun was literally perfect and we just couldn’t stop snapping away. Love when that happens! Shoutout to one of her best friends and one of my go-to assistants Adelle- you rocked that whiteboard girrrrl.
Until next time,
I first met the Schantz family through my fiance, Caleb. His best friend Kent has a brother named Randy (who is married to Anna). Anna and I had gotten to know one another through facebook/IG and then later on some of Calebs campfires. We bonded over our mutual appreciation for photography; well, and their super adorable daughter Mela. Anna contacted me to do a family/maternity session for them AND their best friends .. the Lapps (Tim, Morgan and Noah)! I was a little anxious about how this was going to since I’d never done two separate families at once before but holy cheese balls was it amazing. Both families were so laid back and fun! And on top of that the weather was beyond picture perfect. The trees mixed with the warm sun glowing through..mm. My happy place. Mela and Noah are basically destined to get married.. and I’m pretty sure they’re already boyfriend + girlfriend in the cutest, most innocent way possible.
I think my favorite part of the session was when Noah leaned in to give Mela a kiss and she leaned back like “WHATCHU DOIN BOY..my dads watchin”. But then a second later changed her mind and let him kiss her (maybe dad was looking away then)- HA! These people were such a joy to be around! It makes my job so awesome when the families are so fun-loving and keep me on my toes with their jokes and down-to-earth attitudes. I honestly didn’t want the night to end .. and that’s always a good thing! Enjoy!
Today y’all get to meet a little piece of my heart – my family! Casey and Keith are my couins; I only have three cousins total so growing up we were all pretty close. I’ve been so blessed to have two older cousins who acted as my older brothers and played barbies with me when I begged them, watched out for me with guys/my heart, and taught me things about life and growing up. When they “grew up” and started their own families it was such an awesome thing to be a part of and witness. Casey married Emily and now have two beautiful little girls Lily and Addie (both of which are going to be my flower girls this September!!). Keith married Steph and had their first little stud-muffin Drew (who is one of my little ring-bearers!!!). I am so thankful for these girls and their children and the lives they have built with my cousins. Family is suuuuch an important thing to me and I am so thankful for the happy, close relationships we’ve all built. When they asked me to do a “joint family session” as a surprise for Christmas gifts for all their parents I was super excited!
Addie and Lily completely adore Drew. Every time you turn around they’re most likely kissing his cheeks and petting his head saying “little dew”. So. Cute. It was a lot of fun running around with them in the November sun capturing their little giggles and enthusiastic imaginations. Drew is gonna be such a little ladies man- watch out moms!
